NY City, where I was born, has allowed rights to one religious group that discriminates against everyone else. As usual, knowing they have the power to dictate the law to the Mayor and Governor, the Hasidics are seeking to strip more rights from the rest of the citizens. I felt compelled to comment, without asking the Hasidics for permission. I hope they don't sic the mayor on me!
Sir, as a former NYker,I was wondering, now that you have thrown out the 14th amendment and discriminate against non-Hasidics on what used to be public streets, will you give certain streets to the Christians for Creche scenes and Christmas trees?
Should we expect Sharia law in Muslim neighborhoods? You are allowing one group to discriminate, you have opened the door for anarchy. This is NY property, not Israel. Stop this now, or you will have problems from every other discriminatory group. They have a right to their religion, of course, but they should have no veto over the rights of fellow citizens on the public streets.
I realize that you have more important things to do then make sure your cities citizens are treated with equal protection under the law, like STOPPING THE WORLD FROM SMOKING, and TRYING TO KEEP LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS FROM BEING ABLE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, but you might want to take a minute to remind the Hasidics that they are "the Chosen Ones" to God, not the government, and, BY LAW, they are no better then any other American citizen. They have no right to demand changes in anyones behavior on public city streets.
Unless, of course, you agree that they ARE better then us, in which case you should immediately step down and become a Rabbi.
