...To Be An American.
Especially this weekend. We have done amazing things over the years, and many countries would not exist had we not. The world may b#tch and moan about our actions, but most of the world would not know freedom if it bit them on the arse, and if they do, would never allow their citizens to be free. Freedom isn't free. I had to respond to my cousin, who seemed to be feeling down about the situation in Iraq.
I don't understand. We are doing exactly what we said. We, (they), are winning. Their army is almost completely trained, and is doing most of the fighting and dying. Our troops are coming home, soon to be at less then pre-surge levels. The good people there are dying at rates 10x what we are experiencing. They want the freedom we have brought them, and are dying to secure it. This country is not at war with us, other countries are at war with freedom in Iraq. The Iraquis are standing up and moving foreward, with our help. I compare our role to the Polish and the French, without whose help we'd all be speaking...English! Seriously, they helped us throw off the monarchy and be a free people. We are doing the same for Iraq. It took us 13 years to get our constitution, it took them 4 years, under fire. We endured German and Japanese insurgent attacks for 9 and 7 years after the war ended. This is, overall, an incredibly successful story, hated by our media and the rest of the non-democratic world. In their eyes, standing up to tyrants and saying, "enough", isn't done. You must negotiate your freedom to people that hate you to be accepted in the UN. Screw them. We have, with very few casualties, historically speaking, done remarkable things, as only America can. Stop watching the news! (although, since this started really coming together, you don't see it in the headlines, anymore). Everyone is looking at this through their BDS, (Bush Derangement Syndrome). If a democrat was in the white house, all we would hear is what a great job we are doing. Our medal winning heros would be in the news. But because these people hate Bush so much, nothing he has touched will be given a true look.
